Students From The Earth Science Department of University of Ghana Tour Atlantic Lithium Project Site

Earth Science is a department in the University of Ghana, Legon, where students are given insights on all fields of natural sciences in relation to Earth. As part of their semester programme, they are obliged to embark on field trips to have practical experience of the courses being taught. 

On the 3rd day of August 2022, student geologists together with their lecturers visited the Ewoyaa Lithium Project site of Atlantic Lithium Limited, a mineral exploration company exploring for lithium bearing rocks, mainly operating in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region on prospecting basis as part of their educational experience to appreciate what is being taught in the classroom and understand the reality on the ground.
The Principal Geologist of the Atlantic Lithium, Mr Abdul-Razak Shaibu Ballah said as the world goes green, lithium is growing in value and demand for electric vehicles and the electrification of infrastructure is increasing the demand for lithium, which is a key ingredient for energy storage technologies. He also said the green minerals are metals needed to support the transition to clean energy technologies focus on minimizing carbon emissions to as close to zero.

Speaking to AfricaNewsArenaGh.com, Professor Johnson Manu, a lecturer at the Department of Earth Science - University of Ghana expressed his heartfelt appreciation on the high level of hospitality they received from the Exploration Manager and the Principal Geologist of Atlantic Lithium Limited and how the students frequently asked interesting questions about the things they have learnt in the classroom and how they are applied in the field.
He further described the interactions and responses as splendid and believed the students will be in the best position to exhibit their potentials whenever any opportunities befall them. 

In an interview, some of the students showed appreciation for having enough time of the various departments visited, adding that the contents of what they did at the site was relevant for sustainability and opened potential for future collaborations.

They commended Mr Abdul-Razak Shaibu Ballah for the fruitful interaction received and further called on the lecturers to organize variety of events of such for students.
