Toyota Hiace bus with registration number WR 1347- 17 collided head-on with DAF Truck with registration number GM 2570-12 at Eduegyei on the Cape Coast-Takoradi highway in the Central Region killing 12 people and injuring one.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) according to it's Central Regional Public Relations Officer(PRO), DO3 Abdul Wasiu Hudu received the distress call at 15:50hrs (3:50pm local time) from a police officer as a rescue team was quickly despatched to the scene from Elmina Fire Station.
The team arrived at the scene at 1558hrs and extricated the victims with the aim of searching survivors, only one lady was rescued alive.
All the victims were sent to the Cape Coast Teaching hospital.
According to eyewitness, the DAF Truck which was coming from Takoradi towards Cape Coast was overtaking a vehicle ahead of it in a poor visibility area due to smoke from a burning bush, and run into the Toyota Hiace bus which was traveling from Kumasi to Takoradi.
Meanwhile reports according to the GNFS personnel indicates driver of the DAF Truck is on the run, hence didn't meet him at the accident scene and couldn't confirm his whereabout.
Further investigations into the incident are been carried out by the Ghana Police Service which will be duly communicated by our cherished readers.
