Mr. Joe Kay of Joe Kay Mining Group, a Central Regional based small scale miner and a member of the Ghana Small Scale Miners Association has vehemently noted that no president in the country can ever suspend the activities of galamsey in Ghana, not today or years to come.
He stressed that president Akufo-Addo's fight to totally halt galamsey activities in the country is an already lost battle, knowing very well there's little he can do about it as gold extraction currently serves are the country's backbone.
Speaking in an interview to Accra-UK based Rainbow Radio reporter Eric Annan he said, what Nana Addo as a president and his successive governments can instead do to slavage the worrying situation caused by galamsey activities in the country is to rather put in place pragmatic and stringent measures to curb the streadying menace, other than the President's plan to entirely collapse the occupational venture.
The Upper Denkyira West based miner who through the government's 'operation halt galamsey' has had his three excavators burnt, in addition said that God is not a fool to have planted gold within the land to be mined, knowing very well our water bodies equally plies on this same land. Elaborating that what He (God) seeks from us as human beings is to implement strict and punishable measures to deter prospective culprits from illegally mining to destroying our lands and water bodies.
President Akufo-Addo on the other hand was in Kumasi on Wednesday where he met Chiefs, various District Chief Executive (DCE) officers and developmental leaders across the country on how they can help him achieve his agenda on operation halt galamsey successfully without encountering any hitches whatsoever, as the initiative has faced since its inception into the system.
