A Call For Reduction Of Taxes On Pad To EndPadPoverty In Ghana

The CEO of Ena Kare Foundation who doubles as the Queen mother of Ekumfi Swedru, Nana Adwoa Enyinfuaa III has called on the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to extract or reduce the taxes imposed on sanitary pads.

According to her, young girls in remote areas in Ghana cannot afford to buy sanitary pads because it's expensive and due to this reason some end up with men to be able to buy them.

"The government believes that Pad is a luxury product and taxes on imported ones are 20% and so we are appealing to the government to reduce the tax on imported Pad to make it easily accessible to Young girls. And also we want the government to invest in local Pad producing factories to be able to produce at lower prices.

In the end, it will help the fight against teenage pregnancy and lead to women's empowerment because a lot of these girls will be able to stay in school."
