MTN Group has resumed its 21 days of Y'ello Care employee volunteering programme after two years of break due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The annual event which aims to secure high participation levels of MTN staff in high impact of social projects to uplift and empower local communities in which the company (MTN) operates.
At the programme held at Ankaful M/A Basic School in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem Municipality of the Central Region under the theme "Empowering Communities For Economic Recovery" with the aim of empowering entrepreneurs and students in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) space.
Mrs. Regina Arkaifi the Human Resource and business partner for Western and Central Region emphasized the need for the pupils to focus on digital skills training and digital job creation in order to drive economic activity and participation.
She said, it is very crucial as MTNers to continue to contribute to its societies and to make sure the communities which the company operates see the value of ICT, how to leverage on it to empower them economically and to do their book keeping for a sound financial records hence, in Ankaful Mental M/A Basic School to take the students through basic ICT skills for easy teaching and learning.
"We have also presented to the school a laptop so that after this section, they will continue to encourage the students and also to aid them in their studies in the ICT space."
Mrs Regina Arkaifi then encouraged the students to take their ICT education seriously since the global trend is now digital and promised to provide digital services to empower communities and empower our countries within Africa and even globally through the company's 21 Days Y'ello Care programme which is one of the company's focus to help empower and recover communities economically.
"As the leading mobile operator in emerging markets and given our understanding of transformative power of digital innovation, we constantly seek to connect people with technology so that the youths most especially the students can enjoy dividends of the digital age," she disclosed.
Meanwhile, the headmistress for Ankaful Mental M/A Basic School, Mrs Rosemary Woode welcomed the program as very imperative and charged the students to make judicious use of it by inculcating the habit of studying ICT in their daily studies to bridge the ICT gap between Africa and developed countries.
Stressing the need for them to fully leverage the technological innovations defining this particular era to unleash their full potential.
More so, she challenged students to be innovative and time-conscious whiles also being creative in order to address global challenges.
