PRESS RELEASE: Central Regional Police Statement On Enyan Abowinum Murder

CENTRAL REGIONAL POLICE  STATEMENT ON ENYAN ABOWINUM MURDER

On 11/05/2022, at about 2230 hours, the Ajumako District Police Command responded to an information received from Enyan Abowinum that, ONE suspect Kwesi Tandoh had shot his wife Abena Nyamekye and one of their children. 

When police arrived at the scene, suspect Kwesi Tandoh aged 40, had locked their house and waiting with a gun for anyone who will try to rescue any of his family members.
The suspect was met firing from his room.
Suspect allegedly killed himself later.

The room was broken into by police but found the wife struggling for survival.
She was quickly rushed to Ajumako District Hospital for treatment, but one of their children, Richmond Tandoh aged 14, and the father were found in a pool of blood with gun shot wounds in their heads and chest. They were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. 

The wife Abena Nyamekye aged 43, later died whilst receiving treatment. 
The other children aged 5, 17 and  9 years were spared because they hid themselves in the room.

The bodies had been conveyed to Our Lady of Grace Hospital Mortuary, Breman Asikuma for preservation and autopsy.

Exhibit found at the scene included a single barrel shot gun, one locally manufactured pistol, a cutlass and a weedicide.

The command in collaboration with the Regional Social Welfare Office has sent the three (3) children to a shelter and University of Cape Coast Guidance and Counseling Unit is giving the children psychological support as they look traumatized.
