C/R: Cape Coast Taxi Drivers Fumes At GPRTU-Mankessim Division For Delay In Approval To Increase Transport Fares


Taxi drivers within the Central Regional capital, Cape Coast has passionately voiced out their ordeal on the hold-up of approval to increase their transportation fares by the GPRTU-Mankessim division as being experienced across some part of the country since Saturday, complaining the unfortunate delay has become a sense of worry to them. 

The frustrated drivers issued, in as much as the delayed approval has left them worried, they are as well confused whether to increase the transport fares themselves or to continually look up to the GPRTU-Mankessim division to come up with the go-ahead to do so.

They lamented the persistent increment of fuel is badly affecting their daily sales and as such has rendered many guys [drivers] to have their cars collected by it's owners due to low sales made.

Speaking exclusively in an interview with Eric Annan of AfricaNewsArenaGh.Com, Station Master for the UCC Old Site Taxi rank, Nana Adu revealed they the taxi drivers of Cape Coast as at now haven't increased their transport fares due to the fact their leaders asked them to hold on until they secure a letter from the Mankessim GPRTU before they can do justice they also increasing their fares.

On the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council's (GRTCC) call to the Transport Ministry to stop GPRTU and it's drivers from its recent 20% fare increment, Nana Adu said the union has no right to caution they the drivers of GPRTU to stop the increment if they couldn't stop the government from persistently increasing fuel prices in the country.

Driver Ibrahim Biney also had his take on the matter to call on their leaders to as a sense of urgency come out and allow them [drivers] also increase their transport fares. Saying is only they the taxi ranks within the City that are deprived from these fare increment, as Tarkoradi - Cape Coast Trotro cars have all increased their fares.
