Mrs. Abitha Odame- Nyanteh
Mrs. Abitha Odame- Nyanteh, General Manager for Ecozoil Ltd, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies has expressed her displeasure over the filthy state of beaches in Ghana, this she said during the 'Biriwa Okyir festival' grand durbar.
She lamented about how some bad attitudes of citizens have turned the beaches into dumping sites and their place of convenience. She said these actions by coastal dwellers has made our beaches unattractive and has put off investors from investing in our coastal communities. Adding that, these practices have also increased the rate of diseases such as Cholera, typhoid and Malaria.
Mrs. Odame-Nyanteh said the irresponsible dumping of waste especially plastics on our beaches has led to low yield for fisherman.
In an interview with the Accra-UK based Rainbow Radio reporter Eric Annan, Mrs. Odame-Nyanteh mentioned that the attitude of some Ghanaian residents along the beaches is equally hindering both indigenes and tourist from patronizing most of the country's beaches on account of poor sanitation.
She called upon the traditional authorities and the Mfantsiman Municipal Assembly to support in keeping our beaches clean by putting up stringent measures to deter people from defecating on the beaches of Biriwa and its neighboring environs.
Mrs. Odame-Nyanteh during her address further appealed to the Government to support in the Coastal Sanitation Project so development would be increased in the coastal communities.
As part of Their Coastal Sanitation Project, Ecozoil Ltd has employed over 100 youth to clean the beaches in the Mfantsiman district and donated 50 packs of bottled water to support the Grand Durbar of the Okyir festival on Saturday, 15th October 2022.
EcoZoil Ltd also supported with Beach cleanups and public sensitization on the need to keep clean beaches prior to the Durbar as part of the festival celebrations.
