Gov't Committed To Expanding Ghana's University Infrastructure To Accommodate Fresh SHS Graduands - Prez Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo at the 60th anniversary of UCC

President Nana Akufo-Addo has opined his New Patriotic Party (NPP) led government is ever committed to ensuring infrastructures pertaining to Universities within the country are adequately expanded to harbor all qualified Senior High Secondary (SHS) graduands who seeks to access various tertiary institutions across Ghana.

Conferred the special guest of honour at the University of Cape Coast's (UCC) 60th anniversary grand durbar, president Akufo-Addo at the school's New Examination Centre (NEC) auditorium congratulated the University for its attained milestone as the topmost ranked University in Ghana, the best in West Africa, 4th in Africa and 24th globally in terms of pure and authenticity in research.

Speaking on the theme "60 Years of Quality Higher Education: Expanding the Frontiers, president Nana Addo noted out to Sompa News reporter Eric Annan his government's commitment to ensuring infrastructures of Universities across the country are expanded for the benefit of the numerous secondary schools scattered across the state whose graduands qualifies to access tertiary education yearly. Remarking each one of these students has a place in tertiary education.

The president in his submission however bemoaned the activities of some unknown individuals who he addressed are illegally encroaching on the lands of the tertiary institution, as he sounded some words of caution to such persons to as a matter of urgency halt such illegality, for his NPP government is prepared to reclaim such lands, not only with that of UCC but such across the entire country.

Dr. Sir Essoun Sam Jonah, Chancellor for UCC on the other hand impelled the government to put in place concrete measures which in tune will propel the country become less dependant on foreign goods. Stressing Ghana's majority of tilapia consumed comes from China, as the state depends on the Netherlands and US for its frozen chickens as well as relying on neighboring countries like Burkina Faso for its onions and tomatoes.

Established in the year 1962, the tertiary institution which through its enormous accolades amassed has affectionately won for itself 'the school of competitive choice' in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022 was ranked No.1 out of the 138 new entrant Universities in the World University rankings and No.1 globally for research influence.

The globally acknowledged ranking agency in its 2023 rankings comparatively ranked UCC as No.1 University in Ghana, No.1 in West Africa, No.4 in Africa and 24th globally for research influence.
