Gomoa West Records High Rate Of Maternal Mortality Due To Poor Road Network - Nana Yenku Amegyir II Laments

Maternal mortality remains a challenge in providing quality maternal and other reproductive healthcare services in Gomoa West District of the Central Region, Ghana.

The Tufohen of Gomoa Akwakrom who doubles as the Esihen of Adonten Division of the Akyempim Traditional Council, Nana Yenku Akurogo Amegyir II has lamented on the high rate of maternal mortality due to bad road connectivity from Akamu to Gomoa Afransi.

Residents, who have been infuriated by the incidents, say it could have been avoided if only their numerous calls to the Member of Parliament, Mr Richard Gyan-Mensah, and the District Chief Executive, Mr Bismark Baisie Nkum, had been heeded.

They have bemoaned why they have been denied developmental projects including roads, and hospitals despite being a food basket area in the region.

The statement made was in an interview with AfricaNewsArenaGh's Adom Nanaa Odiasempa Savvy after the grand durbar of the Ahobaakese Festival.

Ahobaakese is an annual festival celebrated by the Chiefs and people of Gomoa Akwakrom in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region of Ghana and this year's celebration was scheduled from August 29, 2022 to September 5, 2022.

Comparatively, the 2022 Ahobaakese festival has been celebrated in a grand style which was attended by dignitaries within Ghana and abroad.

Speaking to Adom Nanaa Odiasempa Savvy, the Tufohen of Gomoa Akwakrom and Esihen of Adonten Division of the Akyempim Traditional Council, Nana Yenku Akurogo Amegyir II further expressed appreciation to the chiefs, people and corporate bodies for their various support executed in the area and making this year's annual Ahobaakese Festival a successful one.

The theme for the 2022 Ahobaakese Festival is to "Enhance Culture and Development of Akwakrom", and the occasion was chaired by the National Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Nana Nimako Bresiamah.
