Backgrounder
Nana Kwesi Mensah lll, Paramount Chief of Kwaprow a suburb of the Cape Coast North constituency in the Central Region has outspokenly register his outmost displeasure following a long-standing banter between his community and authorities of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) as he laments the institution is hell-bent on unlawfully claiming ownership over some acres of land owned them.
He narrated that though Kwaprow in the year 1960 together with other five communities (namely; Atokokyire, Kakumdo, Amamoma, Apewosika and Kwesipra) came together to form the University community by respectively dashing out some acres of land to the then Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's led government for the establishment of UCC in an agreement to be heavily compansated, which he chide despite the fact that these royalties for years are not forthcoming has equally seen his community virtually been taken over by the school through unauthorized means, having currently be in possession of chonk a number of its lands with 602 acres out of the community's 938 acres of land customarily owned.
The Chief who ascended the throne of Kwaprow not long ago but has instilled enough discipline and developmental projects to the community expressed his frustration over the issue with a pictorial evidence of the community's gazetted land certificates together with its site plan as he disclosed the University, spearheaded by its Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong aside currently possessing two third (2/3) of Kwaprow's lands is still bent on going contrary to an old demarcations made by the Lands Commission to encroach on the few lands they're left behind, fingering out one Mr. Jeff Onyame who he remarked was then the University's Registrar and was around when these demarcations where been effected but has turned blind eye to the truth to rather rally support behind the VC, hence call on the president to intervene in the situation.
The helpless Chief further admonished his community in giving out its land to government in the establishment of the University are presently gnashing off their teeth in regret as he review the school since its inception has contributed abysmally in employing the services of his people, adding that most of his ladies aside everything also falls to become prey to majority of these University guys who usually come to log within the community whiles schooling, as a lot of them have along the way impregnated most of these ladies only to fleed off at the end.
Nana Kwesi Mensah lll declared this in a press briefing held at the Kwaprow Old Community Centre on Sunday.
However, Queen Mother Nana Afua l speaking in an interview to Accra-UK based Rainbow Radio's Eric Annan called to employ the services of His Excellency Nana Addo to come to the aid of Kwaprow, appealing the community due to its location situated within the University is going through a lot in the hands of some strict measures the school possesses, as she relayed is hindering many drivers from plying through the community which is having a ripping effect on the residents, particularly on traders who travel far to bring goods (food stuffs) into the place for sale.
