Press Release: NEG Road Map To Withdraw Their Services Over Low/Outdated Rates Allowances For Script Marking, Care Study, Research, Practical Assessment And Other Related Matter

The Nurse Educators’ Group (NEG) is a specialized group under Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana has map to the withdraw their services over/outdated rates allowances.

Speaking to the media in a press conference held in Techiman Bono East region August 9, 2022, the National Chairman for (NEG) Mr. Bakinam Adamu, who addressed the media, outlined their plans and what they intend to do to register their displeasure to the government and the Ministry of Health.

NEG made a request through a communiqué dated 20th of June, 2022 at the end of its 2022 Annual General Meeting held at Sunyani to the Ministry of Health for a review of the following allowances and other related matters for its members in the light of the current difficult economic situations in the country.

1. Script marking
2. Care study
3. Research supervision
 4. Practical assessment
 5. Labour ward assessment
6. Invigilation
7. Field/clinical supervision
 8. Health talk supervision
 9. Research and book

The other related matters include;

1. Review on the health training institutions 30% reservation of approved admission quotas to the Ministry.

2. Scrapping of the 34% gross of the interview proceeds to be paid to the Ministry.

3. The nursing forms should be sold by the various health training institutions but not the Ministry of Health. These proceeds could be used as internal generated funds in which various institutions can use to develop their infrastructure and human resource needs as we aspire to attain tertiary status.

4. Road map to the conversion of Health Training Institutions into degree awarding:
The intention of industrial action by the Nurse Educators’ Group across all the Health Training Institutions in Ghana effective August was approved by the council at the 2022 AGM in case the Ministry of Health fails to attend to the issues raised above.

We are appalled at the inept attitude of the Ministry of Health relative to our call on the review of the 2015 approved allowances rates and other related matters after several reminders. For instance, after the issuance of the communiqué, some National Executives made a follow-up to the ministry but no avail.
No engagement has been made so far to kickstart the negotiations on the review of the proposed rates.
The loud silence of the Ministry of Health is worrisome and leaves much to be desired of any Ministry that cares about its workers. The members of this noble group can no longer bear the hardships. We, therefore, reject the low rate allowances as well as the inequalities in allowances paid in the various public health training institutions of this country.

The leadership of this noble Group is compelled under the current economic hardships and the lukewarm attitude demonstrated by the health training institutions unit (HTIu) of the ministry to publicly communicate to Ghanaians the road map of our intention to withdraw some of our services from the various health training institutions across the country.

The Road Map

11th – 17th August, 2022 – Wearing of red arm/wrist bands in all health training institutions.

18th – 19th August, 2022 –Withdrawal of care-study supervision and conduct of midsem exams.

2nd September, 2022 – Withdrawal of classroom teaching and other services in all health training institutions.

We are by this medium informing all our members to follow the above road map religiously until you hear otherwise from your leadership.
