Latest Development: Absconded Truck Driver In Fatal Aduegyei Accident Arrested


The Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) constituency in the Central Region yesterday Wednesday, 3rd August afternoon waked up to witness an eye-saw as a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number WR 1347- 17 collided head-on with DAF Truck with registration number GM 2570-12 at Eduegyei on the Cape Coast-Takoradi highway in the Central Region killing 12 people and injuring one.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) according to it's Central Regional Public Relations Officer(PRO), DO3 Abdul Wasiu Hudu received the distress call at 15:50hrs (3:50pm local time) from a police officer as a rescue team was quickly despatched to the scene from Elmina Fire Station.

The team arrived at the scene at 15:58hrs (3:58pm local time) and extricated the victims with the aim of searching survivors as only one lady was rescued alive, having all other 12 passengers on-board at that time including deceased driver Edward Quarquo, 46years all perishing at the spot.

All the victims were sent to the Cape Coast Teaching hospital.

According to eyewitness, the DAF Truck which was coming from Takoradi towards Cape Coast currying 860 bags of GHACEM cements was overtaking a vehicle ahead of it in a poor visibility area due to smoke from a burning bush, and run into the Toyota Hiace bus which was traveling from Kumasi to Takoradi.

Earlier reports according to the GNFS personnel indicated driver of the DAF Truck is on the run, hence didn't meet him at the accident scene when the team arrived and couldn't confirm his whereabout.

Moreover investigations into the incident carried out by the Ghana Police Service communicated by the KEEA Police Commander, Chief Supt. Abraham Bansah to AfricaNewsArenaGH's Eric Annan on how the avoidable accident occured additional revealed the absconded truck driver by name Paul Kwah has been apprehended after less than 24hours investigation lunched and is currently in police custody pending court trial.

The Police Commander, Chief Supt. Abraham Bansah also took that opportunity to advise drivers plying the country's various roads to be wary of overspeeding and then also cautioned them to observe all traffic rules and regulations to help curb unnecessary accidents on our roads.
