C/R: Tension Looms As ELMINA Zongo Split Over Chieftaincy Dispute

People living within the Elmina Zongo which constitutes a suburb of the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) constituency in the Central Region of Ghana currently sits on a tickling time bomb following a chieftaincy dispute which has for days now erupted within the community.

This misunderstanding follows the enstoolment of one Nana Musa Dawda lll as the new Zongo Chief (Sarikin Zongo lll) for the people of Elmina which occured on Saturday, 13th August, 2022 by the Paramount Chief of the Elmina Traditional Council, Nana Kodwo Conduah VI, a deed the customs and tradition of the Zongo community is said to frown upon.

The Zongo stool according to findings conducted by Rainbow Radio's Eric Annan depicted falls on the laps of some three families from which every eligible Zongo Chief of the community is solely selected, as the community's immediate past chief who suffered destoolment hence making the stool vacant hails from one.

Meanwhile, the community having expressed such bizarre situation happen to it presented the case before the Edina Omanhen (Elmina Chief) who as tradition requires of him granted these families the permission to go ahead for a man-hurt in search of a new chief in replacement of their destooled king who will then be presented before him (Nana Kodwo Conduah VI) at his confinement after the traditional coronation of this newly enstooled Zongo Chief is done.

The community's youth according to information gathered upon hearing such directive from the Elmina Chief did accordingly by enacting one Salihu Yahaya from one of these families to be crowned the Sarikin Zongo (Zongo Chief), as a coronation in commemoration to his enstoolment as the Zongo Chief followed afterwards, only for him to be swerved off the stool shortly after he was due to be presented before the Edina Omanhen to be officially sworn-in before the good people of Elmina as their Zongo Chief.

Speaking to Mr. Omar Seidu Alhassan, an Opinion Leader in the community, he outlaid his unflinching displeasure towards the matter as he unequivocally exercised his disappointment towards the Elmina Chief who he accused in his submission to have uncustomarily enstooled a chief for they the people of Elmina Zongo which never done anywhere, and asuch at the blind eye of both the community's opinion leaders and elders of the royal families, hence beseech authorities to step into the case which is fast drawing a serious family disputes to befall the community.

Abdullah Suleman, Youth Leader of the community who together with his Assistant Youth Leader, Hussein Haruna and other youths of the Zongo community without mincing words all vociferously admonished never to accept Nana Musa Dawda lll as their Zongo Chief but rather Salihu Yahaya, who they personally choose to be their Sarikin Zongo.

However, the Paramount Chief of the Elmina Traditional Council, Nana Kodwo Conduah VI who has been heavily accused for causing this unfortunate situation is yet to clear the air by voicing out his side of the story.
