It's Illegal And Unlawful To Hold Yourself As Omanhen, Acting President

The Nkusukum Traditional Council in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region has today, July 5, 2022 debunked the claims by Mr Nicholas Biney and Nana Beenyi for holding themselves as the Omanhen and Acting President respectively in the Nkusukum Traditional Council.

In a Press Conference organized by the Nkusukum Traditional Council and the statement read by Nana Kwa Bonko V, Nkusukum Ankobeahen and the Chief of Biriwa officially announced that, the 2022 Nkusukum Odambea Festival will be held at Saltpond as mandated by Nkusukum Custom and Traditional without compromise. The statement further revealed that the Chairman of the 2022 Odambea Planning Committee is Nana Takyi VIII, the Chief of Abonko who also doubles as the Nkyidomhen of the Nkusukum Traditional Council.

The Nkusukum Traditional Council has therefore called on the general public as a matter of urgency to disregard the claims that, the Nkusukum Odambea Festival will be held at Yamoransa as being escalated by Nana Beenyi who has illegally and unlawfully declared himself as the Acting President.

The statement described the act of Mr Nicholas Biney holding himself as Omanhen and Nana Beenyi also holding himself as the Acting President as unlawful and totally criminality calling on the Police to act swiftly in terms of prosecution.

PRESS CONFERENCE BY NKUSUKUM TRADITIONAL COUNCIL LED BY NANA KWESI BREBO III, THE ACTING PRESIDENT HELD ON TUESDAY, 5TH JULY, 2022 HELD AT PE - EYIN NANKESEDO, SALTPOND

Good morning, the Good people of Nkusukum here and abroad, Nananom, people gathered here, the Press, the Fourth Estate.

We have met here today to clear some issues bothering the minds of many people and make things crystal clear.

Nkusukum Traditional Council is a statutory body recognized by Legislative Instrument 2409 of 2020 page 6 and member of the Central Regional House of Chiefs. There is only one recognized Nkusukum Traditional Council in the Mfantseman Minicipality, Central Region in the Republic of Ghana. We take decisions on our own without any interference from any quarters backed by the constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

The name the Nkusukum Paramount Stool is Nana Essandoh (Okese) when the stool becomes vacant Acting President is elected to steer the affairs of the Traditional Council and represent us at the Central Regional House of Chiefs. Ebusuapanyin Kwamena Bosom of Yamoransa Anaafo Twidan Royal Family was the Ebusuapanyin during the reign of Nana Essandoh VII, he presented Nana Essandoh VIII when Okese VII went to the village (died) the same Ebusuapanyin Kwamena Bosom in consultation with his principal members of the family also presented Nana Kofi Eyin to be installed as Nana Essandoh IX passing through all the customs of the Nkusukum Tradition.

There was Chieftaincy dispute and the assistance of Rtd. Supreme Court Judge, Mr Justice S. A. Brobbey and Committee was sought. After going through the case came Justice Brobbey's Arbitration Award to its finality. Mr Nicholas Biney was not involved in the Chieftaincy case, but Nana Kofi Eyin who had then been installed was then centre of controversy.

It was recommended in the Justice Brobbey Arbitration Award that the family have the option to make or unmake Nana Kofi Eyin the Nkusukum Paramount Chief. Nowhere in the Justice Brobbey Award recommended Mr Nicholas Biney to be made a Chief. It is therefore illegal and unlawful for Mr Nicholas Biney to hold himself as a Chief.

The Justice Brobbey Arbitration Award was adopted and affirmed by the ruling of the Judicial Committee of the Central Regional House of Chiefs on the 8th November, 2021.

Nana Kwesi Brebo III, since he is still the Acting President and has not yet handed over to a substantive Omanhen, it will be illegal and unlawful for Nana Beenyi to declare himself as the Acting President, we cannot have two Acting Presidents at the same time, Acting Presidents are chosen/elected during Traditional Council Meeting. Nana Beenyi was installed as a Chief during Nana Kwesi Brebo's era as the Acting President and swore oath of allegiance to Nana Kwesi Brebo, and he is still the Acting President no vacancy has come for any other Acting President to be elected, Nana Kwesi Brebo III is still the legitimate, lawful and the recognized Acting President.

Acting President position is not a stool reserved exclusively for a particular family for Nana Beenyi to assume it as such for his family alone.

Now, Mr Nicholas Biney unlawfully holding himself as Omanhen and Nana Beenyi also unlawfully holding himself as the Acting President respectively at the same time, this is confusion galore and detrimental to the development of Nkusukum and recalcitrance. This is total criminality and the Police should act swiftly in terms of prosecution. This is not chieftains dispute and based purely on criminality. Disturbing the peace and equanimity of the Nkusukum state.

Now, Nana Beenyi thinking he is above the law has declared his the Acting President deceiving the general public that Nkusukum Odambea will be held at Yamoransa. Disregard it with the contempt it deserves.

Naba Yandoh Kese V, Nkusukum Gyasehen is the Chief of Yamoransa and not Nana Beenyi unlawfully holding himself with coup mentality and has no capacity to do so. Chieftaincy, sacred institution is being thrown to the dogs by these cohorts.

We take the opportunity to announce officially that 2022 Nkusukum Odambea Festival will be held at Saltpond as mandated by Nkusukum Custom and Tradition without compromise.

The Chairman of the 2022 Odambea Planning Committee is Nana Takyi VIII, Nkusukum Nkyidomhen.
