The 2022 edition of Meko Bono Homecoming and Festival was celebrated on July 2, 2022 and the grand durbar for the festival was at the Jubilee Park in Sunyani the Bono Regional capital.
Some prominent traditional rulers in the Bono Regions were in attendance. The Paramount Chief of Dormaa Traditional Area and the President for the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeayo Dr Nana Agyemang Badu II, was the Chairman of the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Nana Agyemang Badu II called on the indigenes of the Bono regions to come together and fight for development adding that, there have been advocacies for the Bono language to be written. He said all the versions of the Twi language emanated from Techiman in the Bono East Region.
Touted as the first people of the Akan ethnic group to have settled in Ghana.
Dormaamanhene further urged the people of Bono to be proud of themselves and their language.
The CEO of Bonofie who was among the organizers of the Meko Bono Festival, Nana Ama Kwakye in an interview with the media said Bono is the older language in Ghana but the people of Bono do not have any event that unite them and this event is an avenue for the good people of Bono regions to come together and interact.
She said the event would be the first of its kind, saying it would be celebrated annually to identify and mobilize human and financial resources to contribute towards the rounded development of the Bono regions.
She added that, nation building should not be a burden that rests only on the government's shoulders, but a shared responsibility, therefore, the festival would bring together stakeholders of diverse backgrounds to give ideas and inputs to accelerate the development of the two Bono regions.
