[Shot] Osabarimba whiles planting his tree seedling
Paramount Chief for the Oguaa Traditional Council, Osabarimba Nana Kwesi Atta II has urged both the government together with it's regulatory bodies in charge of seeing it Ghana's forestry reserves are well protected to bring to book all culprits found culpable of cutting down the country's home grown trees for their selfish gains.
He made this statement after joining the Ghana Forestry Commission's Central Region branch, together with the Vice Chancellor for the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong to plant 6,000 tree seedlings of different species at the University's Valco Hall upon earmarking the country's Green Ghana Day on Friday, June 10,2022.
The Chief who following his ascension on the throne as paramount Chief for the good people of Oguaa has shown much dedication and selflessness as usual formed part of the country's dignitaries who helped to plant an estimated Seven (7) million tree seedlings across the country last year.
Speaking to AfricaNewsArenaGh after planting his tree, Osabarimba said;
"As government has designated people to keep-watch over these trees, everyone who cuts down a tree must be made to plant a seedling in replacement of it.
"But if any is spotted to be an illegal faller of trees must be immediately arrested by the government to face any legal sanctions set for such deed. Also it seems those in charge of implementing such measures are few, cause their work is not effectively felt as it should have been, hence the need for them to up their game, because if they are to execute their work diligently without blemish, will help reduce the cost of replacing these cut down trees with seedlings," he noted.
The government together with the Forestry Commission in this year's Green Ghana celebration increased it's plantation of tree seedlings from last year's 7million to 20million tree seedlings, which according to the Commission is a strategic means of checking the planet's current woes with regards to global warming which Ghana is not exempted, in as much as the country in years to come can also boost of having some value for foreign currencies from the sales of these trees.
