C/R: ICT Lab Deteriorates Over Lack Of Teachers

The students of Assin Hasowodze D/A Basic School in the Assin South District of the Central region, who could have counted themselves lucky for having access to Information Communication Technology (ICT) tools are now lagging in IT education over a lack of ICT teachers.

AfricaNewsArenaGh's Kwame Owusu Shadrack investigations revealed that the computers were donated by Ghana Investment Fund For Electronic Communications (GIFEC) about a year ago.

Reaching some JHS 3 students who would be writing their BECE in October were disturbed about the situation and said, the computers which are left unused are being consumed by dust hence is affecting their academic performance in ICT education.

According to them, they are not only lacking ICT teachers but also Religious and Moral Education (RME), and Ghanaian Language (Twi), due to that some classes have been combined and this is having a dire consequence on their academic work.

Parents in an interview also lamented other needs of the school which desire urgent attention. They further called on the MP for the area who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Education, Mr John Ntim Fordjour to come to their aid.

Meanwhile, the Director of Socioeconomic Development for the Catholic Archbishop of Cape Coast, Very Rev. Father Stephen Amoah Gyasi, a resident of the area recounted that Assin Hasowodze D/A Basic School has the best environment conducive for teaching and learning so teachers should accept posting to the area but also reiterated same challenges.

However, efforts made to get the attention of the MP who is also the Deputy Minister of Education Mr John Ntim Fordjour and DCE, Madam Felicia Ntrakwa Amissah proved futile.
