However, the free eye screening exercise across the length and breadth of Mfantseman Municipality is to end on Friday, May 27, 2022.
The majority of the people screened reported cases of ocular allergies which is an itchy eye condition that makes affected persons rub their eyes excessively and other cases reported were refractive errors; a common eye disorder that occurs when the eye cannot clearly focus on images. This usually results in blurred vision and causes visual impairment.
Again, presbyopia, the gradual loss of the eye’s ability to focus on nearby objects was reported among persons aged 40 and above.
Speaking in an interview, the Director of the KEANA Foundation, Mr Ebenezer Prince Arhin who doubles as the Deputy Director of Human Resource at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital recalled that, "it is a great joy for 80 years and over old woman to recover her sight during the previous eye screening."
“So that is a huge impact in someone’s earning potential and that's what we want to offer to the people of Mfantseman Municipality”, Mr E. Price Arhin told AfricaNewsArenaGh.com.
He further advised the general public to desist from self medication and should always visit the eye specialist for urgent attention.
The beneficiaries also thanked KEANA Foundation for rendering free eye screening services to the people of Mfantseman, adding that, good eye sight was important for their lives and the lack of it could truncate this.
The screening exercise was conducted in collaboration with the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH).
