Tackling Corruption In Ghana; Togbe Afede Has Shown The Way - CITAG

Citizens For Truth And Accountability Ghana [CITAG] has lauded Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, for rejecting a huge sum of GH¢365,000 ex-gratia that was paid to him by the state for serving as a Council of State member.

The convener of CITAG, Mr. Clement C. Blay reveals that, the Paramount Chief has exposed corrupt government officials who are looting the state in the pretext of Ex-gratia through his selfless statesmanlike. 

Togbe Afede XIV has made headlines as a result of the rejection of the huge sum, with many Ghanaians praising him and urging others to emulate his gesture.

The Anti-corruption campaigner, Clement Blay, speaking to AfricaNewsArenaGh's Kaakyire Kwasi Afari has added his voice and called for an end to the payment of ex-gratia given to officeholders after serving and should use it to develop some deprived areas in the country.

Reacting to Togbe Afede’s statesmanlike show of love for his country, Clement C. Blay said officeholders who pretend to love the country but have no good conscience, like the former National House of Chiefs’ president, must bow their heads in shame for their corrupt looting.

According to him, since the District Assembly Common fund is not enough, he suggested that the Ex-Gratia of some politicians should be scrapped so that those monies can be put into local government coffers which he thinks will facilitate rural development.

The convener for the Accountability group hails the Chief high for his kind, patriotic and compassionate gesture to the nation.

Citizens For Truth And Accountability Ghana holds the believe that Togbe Afede is resourceful but in this current economic hardships, he could have embezzled the suspicious Ex-gratia he is given.

This he said, his selfless behavior is commendable and Ghanaians should applaud him for the kind gesture.
