WAFU Zone B U-17 Cup Of Nations Duly Launched


The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the upcoming WAFU Zone B U-17 Cup of Nations to be held in Cape Coast has on Tuesday, 24th May, 2022 had its Media Launch of the tournament took place in Cape Coast at the Ridge Royal Hotel.

The LOC at the event which saw a live telecast on Max TV grind on the opportunity to officially launch the tournament and also had its programme itinerary dually outlined. 

Dubbed Cape Coast 2022, the tournament will serve as a qualifier for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Algeria next year, and will come off on June 11 to June 24.

Six countries namely; Nigeria, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, Benin, Burkina Faso, and Niger will join Ghana to compete for the four (4) tickets allocated for the Africa U-17 championship which has now been expanded from eight to 12 teams.

Speaking to Eric Annan at the event, Chairman for the Local Organizing Committee Mr. Samuel Anim Addo disclosed, Ghana will on the 7th and 8th of June receive various teams for the competition in Accra, where they would first have their Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) section conducted before finally traveling down to Cape Coast for the tournament.

Mr. Anim Addo also opined the committee upon considering the work schedule of residents within the host City, who are anticipated to take chonk of the tournament's spectatorship after several dialogue have decided to fix all game time to be played on 4:00pm and 6:00pm respectively.

He said, the LOC in its planning has arranged the Robert Mensah Sports Stadium and the Elmina Stadium as training pitches for the competition. As the Elmina Beach Resort and Pempamsie Hotel will both host the various National Teams, with match officials all to log at the Ridge Royal Hotel, where the launching was held.

Ghana getting the nod to host the West African showpiece, follows its impressive work done in 2018 which saw the country hosted and won the competition at the senior level.

The Black Starlets of Ghana and their arch West African counterparts Nigeria will do the honest to kick-start the tournament on 11th June at exactly 4:00pm local time at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
