'Okada' Is Easy Means Of Transport, Deadly And Needs To Be Use With Much Care - Omanhene Urges

Tanoso is one of the community in the Techiman municipality of the Bono East region that the youth use motorbikes (Okada) as a means of transporting people from one place to another and because of it nature, it is easy to involve in an accident. Mostly of the youth who ride these motorbikes (Okada) carelessly died leaving others disabled over accident. 

Classic News visited Tanoso to engage with the Leaders and people to find a lasting solution to the accident cases that are regularly recorded in the area.

Nana Sarfo Kantanka, the Ankobeahene of Tanoso who also doubles as the Acting Paramount Chief (Omanhene) of Tanoso Traditional Area in an interview admitted that, "these Okada has really come to help in transporting people from one place to other but the usage by some youth has made it so deadly that no one want to trip as a means of travelling.

He urged the Okada riders in Tanoso to form an association that will help regulate their business in the community because it has created employment for the youth. 

Mr. Sarfo Kantanka also pleaded with the Ghana Highway Authority to divert the Techiman Kumasi Highway to allow the trucks and other busses to use the road outside the communities along this Kumasi Techiman Highway. He factor some of the accident zones that occurred in Tanoso and its environs following these loaded trucks.

He further suggested that, the Highway Authorities should construct a road from Akumadan to Oforikrom through to Tanoboasie to help ease the traffic situation and also reduce the accident rate. 
 
Some members of the community also stressed on the measures to put in place to regulate the use of Okada in order to minimize the accident rate in Tanoso among the riders.
