The Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) through its Girls Empowerment Project has supported 10 adolescent girls back to school in Otabanadze, a community in Ekumfi District of the Central Region.
The Adolescent Girls Return to School Project (AGReSP) is aimed at supporting adolescent girls who in one way or the other dropped out from school to get their education life back on track.
The items include uniforms, a pair of sneakers, among others was distributed to 10 adolescent girls who on one way or other dropped out from school following several consultations made.
Speaking to the media, the Project Officer for Girls Empowerment Project - Ekumfi District, Joshua Andoh said, the project is aimed to encourage teenage mothers primarily and adolescent girls who have dropped out of school.
The beneficiaries were selected from PPAG’s Young and Wise Club members across Ekumfi District and with the support from Assembly Members, Girl Child Education Officer and other stakeholders prompted PPAG to compel the beneficiaries that, it is too early for them to drop out from school and this will boost the moral of such students that, they have not been left out in life and the donation shall excite them to have more interest in learning.
“The motive of this project is to reduce various SRHR challenges facing adolescent girls in Ekumfi District, while increasing school enrollment for adolescent girls”, he emphasized.
The representative of Facilitators for Girls Empowerment Project in the Ekumfi District, Sammiya Ekua Yanney emphasized that, the donation was based on certain reasons, reiterated that, through the Adolescent Girls Return to School Project (AGReSP) by PPAG has been able to send 10 adolescent girls back to school in Otabenadze, one of the communities in the Ekumfi District.
The Assembly Member for Otabenadze Electoral Area, Mr Jamil Nyame showed acknowledgement and thanked PPAG for such kind gesture, and promised to make sure the beneficiaries use the materials profitably.
The students on the other hand also expressed their heartfelt appreciation to PPAG and further called on His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other corporate bodies to assist them in their education fraternity since PPAG has pave the way.
