Workers of Saltpond Packaging are worried as they call on Nananom, Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Municipality, Honourable Ophelia Mensah Hayford, Assembly Members, Stakeholders and other Opinion Leaders over a situation they describe as a punishment from the administrators of the above firm (Saltpond Packaging).
The employees are het up of the condition behind the whole issue that, they are facing safety challenges, threatened to sign by force contract, work overtime, payment issues, among others.
Speaking in an interview with the Regional Officer of Industrial Commercial Union (ICU), Mr Moses Kweku Otoo, he stressed that, "we have safety challenges facing us currently. I am telling you everything about safety does not work and these are the basic things we are calling on the Chinese Management to look at but to no avail.
Stop arm-twisting the employees to sign by force overtime contract. As National Union ICU, we are ever prepared to sit down with the management on behalf of the workers".
Mr Kweku Otoo therefore pleads on the Management of Saltpond Packaging that, they should come and sit down with them (workers) and continue with the negotiations as he calls on Stakeholders to come around in order to resolve the matter, he urged.
Mr Moses Kweku Otoo, Regional Officer-ICMReaching the Women's Representative of Saltpond Packaging, Mary Amissah, accused the Management of sacking her for "refusal to sign under duress contract".
"I have work with them for 4years and the failure to append my signature under this by force contract has led to my dismissal", she stressed.
According to the Local Chairman of ICU, John Amissah also hinted that, he does not understands why the Women's Representative was cause to leave whiles the contract issue is under discussion and therefore calls the decision taken by the Management as excruciating.
He further blame the Chinese Management over poor communication, payment and its matter arising, improper ventilation, lack of protective equipment, lack of first aid, among others.
The employees on the other hand accused the MP for Mfantseman, Hon Ophelia Mensah Hayford for assuring to provide another extra workers according to the Chinese Management.
Her representative, Mr John Anaafi who doubles as the GRA Boss for Mfantseman Municipality after several consultation said, the allegation leveled against the MP is false and calls on the workers and the general public to disregard such rumors.
They (workers) are therefore appealing to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Nananom, Stakeholders and other corperate bodies to come to their aid.
