C/R: BLOOD SHORTAGE HITS SALTPOND MUNICIPAL HOSPITAL

The workers of Saltpond Municipal Hospital in the Mfantseman Municipality of Central Region has lamented on the current situation that, there is 'shortage of blood in the Hospital's Blood Bank'.

In an interview with some of the Staff lamenting on the challenge, they said, it's so painful and sad to hear that someone has lost his/her life due to inadequate blood at the Blood Bank. Pregnant women and accident victims have been the most affected with some of them reportedly losing their lives while waiting for relatives with compatible blood to donate.

The Biological Scientist, Mr Ishmael Asare pleaded with corporate bodies and individuals to come to their aid in that manner.

He called on husbands to assist their wives to the hospital on regular basis and also donate to support their wives and other relatives in case of any emergency.

Mr Asare further stressed on the other benefits as a blood donor and your voluntary service to the country.

Reaching Mr Benjamin Eshun, the Technical Officer also emphasized that, before donating the blood, you will be cross examined to know whether you are in the best position or fit to donate.

The doctors further revealed that, there is no specific time or date set for compatibility test. The doors are always open 24/7 as they provide 24hrs services at Saltpond Municipal Hospital.
