The underpass of Sofoline interchange has been abandoned by the residents of Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Capital following the taken over by mad men.

The abandoned Sofoline interchange was revealed to have served as an avenue for armed robbers attacking the residents who try using the underpass.

Speaking to some of the residents lamenting on the challenge to our reporter, Acquah Solomon Kobina of 24hours Media Group Limited they emphasized that, the underpass is now "claimed to be a bonafide property of mad men and armed robbers since they always pose treat to residents trying to make use of the underpass"

Madam Hannah Bentsil a trader and a resident at Sofoline Alignment asserted that, "it is better to cross the road at your own risk than to expose yourself to attacks".

She further revealed that, the underpass is now the hidden place for armed robbers to get pedestrians into serious tragedy.

"The underpass turns to be a waterlog area whenever it rains, and also a place for defecating which turns to make it difficult for us to make a way out", She reiterated, adding that, residents living around the area has also taken advantage to dump their refuse there.

Mr. Agyemang a driver at the Abuakwa Station also disclosed that, "whiles the construction was ongoing, the bus terminal was situated right behind the underpass but we are now relocated and it did not work to the perfection of the contractor, pedestrians and residents using the underpass. And we prefer crossing the road to the other side than using the underpass".

He further disclosed that, a lot of dangers have been encountered as pedestrians choose to cross to the other side of the highway due to the lack of "florescent light" in the various underpasses after completion.

Reaching an official of Kumasi Municipal Assembly (KMA), Mr. Maxwell Adjei, emphasized that, an overhead foot pass will be a good measure to be put in place to prevent the cause of accident because drivers who have been parking by the road side always refuses to heed to instructions by the Assembly which has been resulting in accident.

"We are therefore proposing to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo - Addo and his government to turn to our aid if an overhead foot pass could be provided to curb the canker", He emphasized.
