Mr. Ebenezer Kojo Otoo who currently holds the bragging right as Ghana's National Best Teacher, awarded last year 2021 has on Friday, 19th August, 2022 saw himself honoured for his prestigious national award and title after his various training as a student in the University of Cape Coast.

The educationist's grand honour berths his stint with the highly regarded institution as a three- time alumni of the University with its College of Distance Education (CoDE), having raised to ascertain the breathtaking height he's presently enjoying.

The occasion earmarked the Installation of CoDE Day in commemoration to the 60th Anniversary of UCC as a Public University at its SMS auditorium dubbed "60 Years of Quality Higher Education: Expanding Access through Distance Learning"

The 45-year-old teacher of the Winneba Secondary School in the Efutu Municipality of the Central Region admonished his dumbfounding excitement for the kind gesture done him through his facial expression and bodily reactions.

Mr. Otoo in his video documentary speech viewed during the occasion, recounted his journey with the University of Cape Coast College of Distance Education. The Ghana's Most Outstanding Teacher (GMOT) 2021 indicated that his achievements and confidence is as a result of the good educational training he obtained from the University of Cape Coast, as he in addition recommended the College of Distance Education for all its workers to obtain professionalism in their respective fields of work while at post.

It was however noted by the Provost of CoDE that the UCC's College of Distance Education (CoDE) primarily began under the Directorship of Mr. Albert Koomson during Professor Agyepong's tenure of office as VC in 2001 with only Diploma in Basic Education programmes. The College which started as a Center for Continuing Education with a 1st batch of 272 students (including Mr. E. K. Otoo the National Best Teacher) can currently pride itself of having over 50, 000 students enrolled its various programmes from diploma to Masters Degree.

The Provost again highlighted some of the successes and challenges of CoDE. Through it all, the college was clearly noted to have an exceptional part of UCC that has contributed immensely to the human capital development of the country.

CoDE book entitled *A hand book of Research on Distance Education in Ghana* was also launched to support research and education delivery among all institutions in Ghana.

Outstanding Study Centers, Coordinators and Former staff of CoDE were as well honoured with various awards.

The Pro Vice Chancellor of UCC in her closing remarks as the Chairperson for the event commended CoDE for bringing quality education to the door steps of the citizenry through its distance education, and for the various human resources they have produced for Ghana as a nation and even the University of Cape Coast itself as well together with the provision of various aids to different units, departments, sectors and colleges in ensuring that all parts of the University community are in it together.

A pledge from the management of the University was also given to support CoDE in building more study centers and in getting Academic Heads for them.

The professor again recommended for CoDE to take advantage of technology and the way conduction of business is changing from the usual to break international boundaries and to introduce more Masters and Doctorate programmes as well.

Graduates from the Senior High School were however encouraged to consider enrolling at the University of Competitive Choice (UCC) most especially in its College of Distance Education.
