Man, 27 Jailed 14 Years For Defiling A 10-Year-Old Girl

Emmanuel Dodzi was jailed for 14 years after he was convicted of a series of sex offences

A 27-year-old coconut seller, Emmanuel Dodzi of Nkubeim-Saltpond in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central region has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour after raping a 10-year-old girl.

The complainant is a Police Officer and a father to the 10-year-old survivor, a class five (5) pupil and are residents of Saltpond.

The Mankessim Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour Gloria Laryea according to the facts gathered by Sergeant Grace Sroda Dubo; the accused person, Emmanuel Dodzi revealed that the survivor about 1:30pm while class was in section visited the urinal. He also visited the urinal, held her hand and dragged her to the nearby bush. He remove her shirt and a pair of shots, spread them on the ground and placed the survivor on it.

He raised her uniform and remove her panty. The accused then inserted his penis into her vagina and had sexual intercourse with her.

Dodzi further confessed that the act has continued for five (5) occasions of which the recent incident happened on October 14, 2021, and warned the 10-year-old class 5 pupil not to tell anyone else he will kill her and her sister who attend the same school with her.

On October 18, 2021 about 2:00pm survivor returned from school and the complainant, a Police Officer noticed she was having difficulty in walking, he asked the wife who is a witness in this case to examine her and noticed the survivor's vagina was widely opened. She was taken to Saltpond Municipal Hospital and was determined that she has been defiled as the survivor in an interview revealed her ordeal from the hand of the accused.

 

October 20, 2021 complaint was made to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Mankessim and the Police medical report form was issued to the complainant to send the survivor to the hospital for the medical officer's endorsement. He returned from the Saltpond Municipal Hospital with survivor's endorsed medical form signed by Dr. Mac Udoka Ifionu indicating that the survivor's hymen was broken following the arrest of the accused, as a caution statement was obtained from him.

The Mankessim Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour Gloria Laryea charged the accused person, Emmanuel Dodzi with the offence of defilement of a girl under 16 years of age contrary to the Criminal Offences Act.
