New Tax Laws Won’t Force Netflix, Facebook And Others To Pull Out Of Ghana – GRA

Assistant Commissioner of the Large Taxpayer Office at the Ghana Revenue Authority says he is certain that the new tax laws would not discourage huge multinational tech companies from transacting with Ghanaians.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday, Martin Yamborigya said that the new move by the Authority would not only help the country attain its revenue target, but also diversify the income streams of the Authority.

“I’m not sure they would pull out because they know what they’re getting. Don’t forget the fact that the tax is supposed to be paid by you the consumer, and not them. It is VAT.

“There should be no reason why they would just go off because they were asked to collect tax for the country. So I don’t think that is going to be an issue.”

Mr Yamborigya was on the show to address concerns about the GRA’s new move in wanting to such as using Facebook to sell or electronic-commerce (E-commerce).

The new policy which is set to kickstart on April 1, 2022, is to ensure that the country mobilizes adequate revenue and widens the tax net for national development.
