The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Adansi North in the Ashanti Region, Hon Eric Kusi Kwaku who doubles as the National First Trustee of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) and National Presidential Aspirant has lamented that most people and the various MMDAs do not know the works of NALAG as an association, especially the Assembly Members in the locality.
Hon. Eric Kwaku Kusi is a Presidential Hopeful of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG)
said this in an interview with Journalists at Adansi Fomena the Adansi North District capital to officially inform his constituents of his readiness to become the next NALAG President.
Mr. Kusi added that the structures within the association are weak and inactive, adding that every region needs a regional office that could have gathered all the grievances of the assemblies to enable work easily and efficiently.
He stated that, during the regional delegates’ conference across all the 16 regions in the country, the assemblies paid GH¢1,000 and upon paying those monies, they did not get any benefit and the executives need to change that narrative.
He lamented that very soon the national delegates conference will be coming off and all the assemblies will be required to pay another money which they will not get any benefit from it, hence, the need to abolish that approach and find other avenues to fund the Association to make it vibrant in the country.
Hon Kusi opined that, if delegates honour him to become the National President of NALAG and shall initiate the following policies to run the association effectively:
AGENDA PEOPLE’S NALAG
1. The welfare of Honourable Members would be my one priority, God willing if I am given the nod.
2. There is strength in numbers and the NALAG has the numbers. Therefore lets us use our numbers to push for our welfare.
3. To make NALAG the people's NALAG (People-Centered)
4. Flow of information to Honourable Members on regular basis.
5. Sub-structures would work effectively (Functionality of sub-structures)
6. To make NALAG vibrant, relevant, demand-driven, and not only an executive one but adaptive too.
7. There will be teamwork and all-inclusive governance. “One man show" will be a thing of the past, God willing.
8. Watch out for NALAG TV
Hon Kusi has served as an Assembly Member, Presiding Member, DCE for two consecutive times and he is currently the DCE for Adansi North Assembly and the First National Trustee of NALAG.
