Disaster: 3 Injured, One In Critical Condition As Heavy Rainstorm Destroys Over 40 Roofs Including Schools In 2 Communities

Following the heavy rainstorm last Saturday, February 19, 2002, residents of Ekumfi Arkra and Ekumpoano have been stranded as the rainstorm ripped off 60 roofs of buildings in the Ekumfi District of the Central region.

The report revealed that three persons comprising of a 12-year-old boy, Patrick Arthur have sustained various degrees of injury, one of the victims is in critical condition, and on admission at Ekumfi Esakyir Hospital is receiving treatment.

Students of Ekumfi Ekumpoano Basic School are forced to study in deplorable classroom blocks after a rainstorm ripped off the roofs of the buildings.

Speaking to AfricaNewsArenaGh's Adom Nanaa Odiasempa Savvy, headteachers of Akyin Senior High School and Ekumpoano Catholic Basic School, said the situation has affected academic activities in the school.

The situation also leaves the classroom full of water but students have no option but to manage.

 A student of the school, some residents also reiterated that the situation affects teaching and learning in the school, victims, and demands immediate attention.

In an interview, the residents appealed to the government, individuals, and organizations to come to their aid.
