The Member of Parliament for Ekumfi District, Hon Abeiku Crentsil, has visited the victims of the rainstorm disaster in the two communities of his constituency to see how best to assist them immediately.

Mr. Crentsil expressed shock and regret at the extent of damage the storm had caused to lives and properties, and appealed to the Ekumfi District Assembly and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) as a matter of urgency to put in place contingency measures to accommodate the displaced persons.

“This is the worst rainstorm disaster I have seen in the history of the district. We must put politics aside and find means of helping the displaced people to integrate into society and reduce their plight,” he said.

The rainstorm, on Saturday, February 19, 2022, hit the Ekumfi District and its environs causing extensive damage to property worth billions of cedis and displacing more than 60 people.

Two schools namely; Akyin Senior High School and Ekumpoano Catholic Basic School in the District had been affected while some electric poles had also fallen, with trees within the street of the two communities.

Hon. Abeiku Crentsil accompanied by Constituency Chairman, Alhaji OB, Constituency Secretary, Mr. Acquah Fayah, and some party executives inspected the affected households and assured the people of help from the District Assembly and NADMO.

He assured to use his share of the District Assembly’s Common Fund (DACF) to address some of the problems, particularly those who sustained various degrees of injury, and the schools, to ensure that the children could go back to their schools.

He appealed to the government, NGOs, and corporate bodies to assist in accommodating the displaced persons.
