The Indomitable Lions in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations competition reached the semi-finals, meeting the tournament's all time best Egypt but failed to reach a step closer to the ultimate, which would have make each player of the Cameroonian team a hooping $1.2million richer if they had progress to win the trophy, but lost out in penalties to the pharaohs.
According to Cameroonian journalist Aka Ayamba Ntui, speaking to Accra-based Asempa FM on their SportsNite show, disclosed the Cameroonian players were paid a $100,000 each for their 2-0 quarter-final victory over Gambia.
Cameroon would have paid up to $33.6 million to their 28 players if they had been able to win the ultimate title at the 2021 AFCON.
“Each Cameroonian player was paid $100,000 in their win over Gambia in the quarter-finals. If you do the calculation, each player will earn up to $1.2 million if Cameroon are able to win the AFCON title,” Ayamba told Asempa's Enoch Kwasi Worlanyo.
The team face off Burkina Faso in the competition's third and fourth place today, having beaten their Burkinabe counterparts 2-1 in tournament's opening fixture.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroonian have to their credit five(5) Africa Cup of Nation titles.
