Ghana Green Label Standard in collaboration with Hortifresh has organized three days training programme for Federation of Tomatoes Farmers and Buyers in Techiman North district capital Tuobodom to enhance their knowledge on the production and preservation of their farm products to aid their production being certified by Ghana Green Label.
The main motive behind the training was to educate the general public and most especially the farmers on the appropriate farming practices, protecting themselves, the crops, consumers and more importantly biodiversity, and the merits that they will gain from Ghana Green Label (GGL) satisfied farmers who produce vegetables free from chemical effects.
Head of training for GGL standards in the Northern sector of Ghana, Mr. Bernard Bempah of Bemcom Youth Skills Training Center - Techiman in an interview stated that vegetable farming always comes with the application of chemicals and most of these farmers do not know the effect and quantity to be applied.
He urged farmers to always use the necessary chemical requirements and seek technical knowledge from experts.
Some of the farmers who participated in the three days training programme said, "we have learned new techniques that will enable us produce vegetables to meet the standard of GGL and consumers safety.
They lauded the organizers for the training and added that, the training has come at the right time and will help increase vegetable production.
