A security officer inspects vaccination cards
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Wednesday, January 5 began implementing the ‘no vaccination, no entry’ policy on its premises, denying persons without the Covid-19 vaccination cards entry to the City Hall building in an effort to contain the resurgence of the coronavirus.
At the main entrance of the City Hall, Metro Guards were busily inspecting the COVID certificates of persons who were entering the building and preventing those without entry.
The move comes in response to “the rising number of COVID -19 cases in the city and the directive from the government”, the Mayor of Accra, Hon Elizabeth Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey said in an interview with the media.
She disclosed that as part of efforts to get all staff vaccinated, a centre had been set up at the forecourt of the City Hall to vaccinate all staff and the general public.
Some visitors and workers who were yet to take their jabs were refused entry as they were unable to provide their vaccination cards.

Today is Constitution Day in Ghana; a day set aside to celebrate the coming into effect of our Constitution and the Republic we now have. It is a public holiday.
ReplyDeleteEmployees who would go to work would receive double pay whilst those who would enjoy the holiday would receive their daily wage for no work done. The purse of employers would be depleted and government being the largest employer would not be spared.
The Constitution is the supreme law of our land as such any losses incurred for celebrating it is worth incurring. This underscores the relivance of the Constitution and places a duty on every Ghanaian to defend and protect the Constitution at all times and to the peril of our lives. Any attempt or decision by anybody, government or her agencies which is not in tandem with our Constitution must be protested.
A few days ago, public sector workers were denied access to their work places under the pretext of not having Covid-19 Vaccination Certificate. Their counterparts in the private sector are also suffering the same fate and are being threatened with termination of appointment.
Paradoxically, Chapter Five of our Constitution which we have lost so much money celebrating it today, captures our Fundamental Human Rights: the right to decent work, the right to life which is their inalienable right, the right to free speech, the right to free movement, the right to personal liberties and above all, frowns on discrimination.
With all due respect Mr President, an astute Human Right Lawyer, why are you discriminating against unvaccinated people? Where did they go wrong and what is their crime for deciding not to take a vaccine whose side effects they cannot vouch for not even by the manufacturer?
If the proponents of LGBTQ++ which is affront to our Value System claim they should be allowed to practice in Ghana because it is their right, why are you, Mr President, denying unvaccinated people their Fundamental Human Rights enshrined in our Constitution?
It is worthy to note Fellow Ghanaians, that every patient has the right to consent according to the Patient Charter before any medication could be administered by any medical personnel. The time to vehemently oppose and speak against this compulsory Covid-19 Vaccination is now or never. The issue of Covid-19 Vaccination should be a matter of choice and those who decide not to take it should be treated as Ghanaians in Ghana and not an Israelites in Egypt. The lives of unvaccinated people also matter.
Winding up, let me rebuke that ugly spirit of fear inside of you with this quote "Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once. Of all the wonders that I yet have heard. It seems to me most strange that men should fear; Seeing that death, a necessary end, Will come when it will come." Julius Caesar.
God bless our Homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong. Happy Constitution Day.
