Sports Minister Commissions Astro Turf Pitch At Mankessim

The newly constructed Astro Turf Pitch at Mankessim in the Central region has been commissioned by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif who was Special Guest in honour of the Late Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman Municipality, Hon. Ekow Kwansah Hayford.

Some personalities at the event were the Nananom of Mankessim Traditional Council led by Nana Adoko Okumanyin III - the Acting President, Hon. Asamoah Boateng (Asabee), Hon. Ike Lord Ennu - MCE, ACP Owoahene Adjei Acheampong, Council of Elders, among others.


Speaking at the occasion, Hon. Mustapha Ussif stressed that the commissioning of the beautiful edifice adds to the remarkable modern astro turfs the government of H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has built in various communities across the country in the past years.


Minister of Youth and Sports disclosed that, "before the assumption of the President, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, there were only two (2) Astro Turfs across the length and breath of the country but today, Friday December 3, 2021 within 4-5 years, we have 89 Astro Turfs across the country."

"These community astro turfs will not only help unearth more talents, but also promote community sports and fitness," he added.


The good and law abiding citizens in their numbers helped commission the Astro Turf at Mankessim with the support of MP for the Mfantseman Municipality, Hon. Ophelia Mensah Hayford, who doubles as the Vice Chairperson for Defence and Interior Committee.


Honourable Member of Parliament expressed her heartfelt appreciation for a successful programme and further called on the constituents for their massive contribution and support to the development of Mfantseman and Ghana at large.

Hon. Mustapha Ussif presented five set of jerseys and footballs respectively following the commission the Astro Turf.

In a football match between Mankessiman Soccer Academy and Bright Stars Ghana to grace the occasion ended 1-1.


The turf construction was funded by Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Foundation and built by W360 Group Pte Limited.
