Ekumfi District Records Zero Maternal Mortality In 2021, High Teenage Pregnancy Cases Recorded

The Ekumfi District Health Directorate on track to attaining its zero maternal mortality target this year.

The Health Directorate has not yet recorded any maternal deaths since the beginning of the year, the District Director of Health, Mr Martin Donkoh has said.

This he explained was because the staff were highly committed to duty and ensured only quality health care delivery services were provided on time to clients at the facilities.

In an interview with the AfricaNewsArenaGh's Nana Yaw Ago, Mr Martin Donkoh expressed concern that, an incident each of maternal mortality occurred in the precious years attributed to poor road networks in the District.

He explained that the deplorable nature of the roads linking some of the communities was consequently causing late reporting of emergency delivery cases to the Hospitals.

He added that, they want to stay successful for the rest of the year.

"The year 2021 has been marked by good news, because no pregnant woman has died within the last 11 months."

“Our target is zero maternal death, so we have to encourage the pregnant women to understand some of the food that they need to take.”

The District Director, Mr Donkoh stated that to maintain this, “we need maximum support from everybody especially assembly members, and the pregnant women themselves.”

He disclosed that pregnant women will also be taken through topics such as nutrition, sexual relation pregnancy, family planning, and male involvement.

Through a four-stage process, pregnant women would be schooled to clear the myth associated with a delivery that makes them stay away from the hospitals.

The Health Director, Mr Martin Donkoh further lamented that, "the current situation about teenage pregnancy is higher and we are doing everything possible to limit the number of teenage pregnancy in the district."

He advised the youth of Ekumfi District to stay away from sexual related activities during this festive season and the days ahead.

He also pleaded with the people of Ekumfi District to adhere to the Covid-19 protocols and also get vaccinated and protect themselves from the menace during and after Christmas.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
