A handful of wrapped dried cannabis were found on Kwabena Buahen aka Peter Boafo.
He pleaded not guilty but the court presided over by Her Honour Gloria Naa Botor Laryea found Buahen guilty at the end of the trial and was sentenced accordingly.
The court said it considered Kwabena Buahen’s plea for mitigation and handed down the minimum sentence and the fact he has no previous conviction.
He therefore prayed the court to have mercy on him.
It was revealed that the suspect is a resident of Assin Ayaase near Assin Jakan.
On March 19, 2020 at 0600 hours, the 2nd accused gave an amount of Gh¢220.00 to the 1st accused to buy narcotic drugs in Cape Coast for distribution at Assin Ayaase. 1st accused carried a blue black bag packed and traveled Anaafo in Cape Coast where he purchased one brown slab parcel of narcotic plant and concealed same in a brown pack. At 1100 hours the complainants were on the Police check duty at Oguaa Kuma on the Yamoransa-Assin Fosu highway and whilst on routine inspections, a printer commercial benz bus with registration number unknown arrived at the Police Check Point on board the accused person at the first passenger seat behind the driver together with other passengers.
During inspections in the sprinter benz bus accused was found in his possession one brown slab percel of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs concealed in a blue black coloured bag pack.
The accused was arrested with together with the narcotic plant sustance handed over to Saltpond District Court Police for further investigation.
The prosecutor said the said dried leaves were sealed in the presence of the accused, now convict, and an independent witness.
The dried leaves were forwarded to the Forensic Science Laboratory, Accra for examination and report. On July 20, 2020 Forensic Science Examination Report of narcotics plant material tested positive for cannabis. Docket was forwarded to Attorney General's Office for directives who instructed that, accused be charged for the offences accordingly.
